Gambling, Mobile Gaming: Cheating Methods to Watch Out For

Posted on December 24th, 2009 at 7:02 pm

This issue must be addressed, and you must understand how to avoid it. It is just a fact of life that people are going to take advantage of other people in an unfair manner when given the opportunity to get an edge.
Whether it’s stealing from your local job or taking millions from innocent people through accounting frauds, it’s wrong. I am going to tell you these common cheats not so you can go try them yourself, but to prepare you for what to look for. Cheating is for losers and I don’t expect anyone who is reading this to ever cheat. Cheating is common in poker and you have to know how to avoid it and what to look for.
Cheating at the Corporate Level
It has even happened at the corporate level when a top level executive was caught using a server exploit in which he used to see other players hole cards. Eventually stealing millions from customers in the mid-part of 2007 at Absolute Poker. He was finally busted and this lead to the biggest scandal in poker. If you want updated info on this you’ll have to Google it.
Cheat One “Instant Messaging”
The first thing to look for is slow tables. You want to avoid these at all costs. Most of the time the players aren’t just trying to be concise about their actions, they are cheating. Another reason to avoid slow tables is because the more hands you play per hour the higher your profit is going to be.
A common way that people take your money is by working in teams. They will sit down at a table with two or three other friends and suck every penny out of any poor soul that sits down. They do this through a technique called Aiming. They use AIM (automated instant messaging) to tell each other what they have. It may not seem like a big help to each other but it is. Knowing that six cards are out of the deck can improve your odds by almost 12%.
Let me give you an example of how it can help them even more than that. Say they were aiming and one player had 9 2, the other hand 4 7, and the third hand 2 j. All three of these players folded pre-flop. The flop comes 2 2 A. If you’re sitting with an ace and you have someone betting like he has a two I think the aimer just might know you don’t have a two.
A ring game consists of ten players. These are hot spots for the cheaters because they can play against more players and use more people in their team and still keep their profit level high. These advantages that the cheaters have will make it almost impossible for you to win unless you’re just getting the cards that night.
Cheat Two “Co-Op Raising”
Another thing to look out for at tables is players with large stacks. Many times players will go in with a partner and raise re-raise each other pushing other unsuspecting opponents out of a pot. The raising and re-raising is supposed to make you think there are two very strong hands at play. Even the average player understands that when you’ve been raised and then re-raised in a hand that it’s time to run unless you have the absolute nuts. If you see weird folds where no matter what the player had he should have called due to pot odds then you should be suspicious as well.
Most of the time they are doing this with junk hands but as a good player you know the right play is to fold. Now that you know what you are looking for you can use this cheat to your advantage. If you spot two players constantly raising and re-raising each other but are never showing their cards you can trap them. Just calling in this spot will pay you off enormously. Most of the time they will only go to the river card betting big. By this time it doesn’t matter because they just raised and re-raised you enough to double your stack.
Cheat 3 “Chip Dumping”
This is probably the most common and easily executed cheat online. The most common place for this cheat is in a 100 player or more $100 buy-in or above tournaments. I have heard of as many as 7 guys working together to pull of this cheat because it increases their odds of winning enormously.
The process involves chip dumping. These players work in teams and dump their chips to each other and finally to one end guy. A guy who started out with 1000 chips just got 12,000 or more handed to him. I don’t know about you but if I double up early in a tournament only twice I’m almost guaranteed to make it to the final table.
The only thing that gets in the way of these cheaters is that you don’t start at the same table as your team-mate. This is ok because as soon as the players end up at the same table they dump whatever chips they have to each other. It’s pretty much a guaranteed way to make it to the final table. In tournaments where first place walks with 50 or 60 thousand it is worth the effort to these cheaters.

Gambling, Poker Sites - Multi-player mayhem

Posted on December 24th, 2009 at 2:02 pm

Online poker sits above all other online games or multi-player games in terms of revenues and turnover. But where does it fit in a social sense – should it be classed alongside the likes of other browser based games or other casual online games?
The online PC games market topped $1bn in the West in 2004/5 and is expected to pass $2bn in 2007. Growth is currently being driven by an increase in the speed of broadband offerings, allowing the increase in pay-per-play browser gaming, and multi-player online games which have both improved in quality and variation, and are now reaching a wider audience than ever before.
Coupled with the resumption of growth within the online advertising market which broke the 1$ billion barrier in 2006, as well as the successful introduction of new models such as games service subscriptions, the longer term broadband games-on-demand services are expected to make a huge and ever increasing contribution to online sales and internet growth.
Pay-per-play browser gaming, where users pay to enter skill-based games and tournaments to compete for cash and other prizes, is the hottest of the online gaming sub-sectors.
A $35m market only three years ago, pay-per-play gaming reached $137m in 2003 and is forecast to grow at an impressive compound annual growth rate of 40 per cent to 2007 to become the second largest online gaming sub-sector behind multi-player gambling games; producing a multi-million dollar industry.
The multi-player online market continues to grow, defying industry scepticism. Continued expansion will come from existing online games as well as a range of high profile releases expected over the next two years. Europe, which has a relatively untapped multi-player online game market, will become the largest growth opportunity as the North American market approaches saturation, and has also been disabled by the recent introduction of the online gaming act, preventing banks from accepting monies from players accessing multi-player gambling sites. The increasingly busy release schedule will also lead to over-supply issues and the re-appraisal of current models and pricing strategies.
While most online gaming still remains a predominantly male activity, growth within the casual games market and casual gambling games, is being driven by women, and in particular middle-aged unemployed women. What many have termed the ‘bored housewife’ market! Most single casual online gaming sub-sector is now dominated by female gamers, from pay-per play to casual games subscriptions, with some game operators reporting female to male ratios as high as 70:30.
Some broadband companies are also gaining market revenues through the deployment of streamed games-on-demand services. Lessons are being learnt about how to effectively operate such games-on-demand services and the market should show good growth rates over the next few years, driven by expanding broadband demand.
So where do online poker games fit into all of this?
Well, in terms of revenue it is untouched. For example, of the £50 billion in UK gambling revenues, the total online gambling revenues in the UK in 2006 were around £660 million, with an estimated growth for 2007 of around £1.5 billion. Of those online revenues, in 2006 online poker claimed the fastest growth compared to that of 2005, with around £1 billion revenues estimated for 2007. Worldwide, poker turnover exceeded £12 billion in 2006.
Online poker itself is deemed to be a multi-player online game, but it can also be classed as a pay-per-play browser game, as you do pay for each card game you play.
However, should online poker be put in the same brackets alongside other multi-player or browser based games when it comes to the social and psychological effects that come with attached?
This has been a debate that has raged for many years as those in favour of poker deem it to be a game of skill and strategy, not unlike other pc games.
Certainly these types of multi-player games that offer the chance to win money for competing in tournaments are no different to offering a teenager the chance to win a prize for competing against someone during a fantasy game or role playing game. They each entice players to part with their money and both can be seen as skill games.
However, poker has always been classed as a form of gambling. It will remain thus until the problems of gambling addiction and anti-social effects can be understood and tackled.
One thing is for sure; online poker will continue to provide those who operate and form part of its industry with revenues that leave pc games operators drooling.

Gambling, Crush Single Table Sit-N-Go Tournaments

Posted on December 24th, 2009 at 4:02 am

If you are reading this article, I am going to assume you already know the what a sit-n-go tournament is and how to play No Limit Holdem. If you don’t, this article isn’t for you. The sole purpose of this article is to give you a basic strategy to be a consistent winner at single table sit-n-go tournaments. You will not become Doyle Brunson or Phil Helmuth (who wants to be like him anyway?), but if you follow these basic strategies your chances of being a consistent money winner at sit-n-go’s will increase dramatically.
So here goes!
The Strategy
If you do not remember anything else from this article, remember this: The secret to winning money a Sit n Go tournament is PATIENCE! PATIENCE! PATIENCE! Take a few moments and repeat this to yourself over and over again.
I have played thousands of sit-n-go’s. If you play on one of the the major on-line poker sites, there is a good chance we may have played against me. Sorry, I’m not going to tell you who I am, that would be silly. Anyway, I have noticed many, if not most of the players in the low stakes SnG tournaments are very loose and play too many hands. I don’t reccommend this strategy. You do not want to play many hands in the early stages of the tournament. You want to sit back and let all the loose players (affectionately referred to as “donks”) knock themselves out. Before you know it, the table will be down to 4 or 5 players and you will only have to beat two or three of them to get in the money.
Here is a basic strategy for playing broken down by the number of players left in the game. Nothing in poker is written in stone, but if you follow these guidelines you will improve your chances of winning. A good SnG player (yes, I do consider myself one)can get into the money on a consistent basis(yes, I do)
7-10 Players
In the beginning you only want to play big hands against a small number of players. You don’t want to get involved in many multi-way pots where you may suffer a bad beat. Be very selective but be very aggressive with the hands you play. In the beginning I will only play: A-A, K-K, Q-Q or AK in early position and I will go all in with them in an attempt to double up.
In Middle position play Ace-Jack, Ace-Ten, (suited) King-Queen, Queen-Jack or Jack-Ten along with pocket 99 - 88 - 77.
In late position if the pot has not been raised I will limp in with small pocket pairs and a suited Ace or suited connectors. If I don’t get a set on the flop I will dump my pocket pair. You want to flop a big hand or get out for a single bet. Chasing a draw will burn chips and if there is a raise you should avoid this.
5-7 Players
Keep playing the same tight strategy. If you happen to double up during the early rounds you can afford to be very selective but also be aggressive attacking the small stack and the blinds. The one thing you want to avoid is a confrontation with another big stack unless you have a monster hand. It usually doesn’t take too long to lose two or three players. Play big hands with a raise or fold and wait for a strong hand.
4-5 Players
When the tournament gets down to 4 or 5 players the action gets really tight. Players are hoping to coast into the money. Forget what you learned in Sunday School (”THOU SHALL NOT STEAL”). This is a great time for you to steal the blinds and pick up money from the short stacks who will fold in hopes of making it into the money. If you have a big stack, don’t let the players with the small stack see a cheap flop. Make them pay to play. Enter the pot with a raise or fold. One word of caution is that if the blinds are too short stacked they will be pot committed and will usually call in desperation. You don’t want to double them up by playing garbage.
If you have a medium stack at this point, you still have enough chips where you can do a little stealing and build your stack. Play any pocket pairs aggressively if you are the first one to enter the hand. If you are short stacked when you get to this point, your goal should be to try and double up of go broke trying. Any pocket pair or Ace with a big card is worth an all in bet if you are heads up.
3 Players. CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE IN THE MONEY!!!!
When you make it into the money you have accomplished your main goal. Now is the time to go for the next goal, WINNING!!!!. Who ever said “winning isn’t everything” lied to you. Sure it is. That is why we are playing. If you aren’t playing to win, you shouldn’t be playing. You should play for first place or go broke trying. If you are the chip leader you should be raising with every hand you play. Don’t let the other two players see the flop cheaply. If you are on the button and have nothing let the blinds fight it you with each other.
At this stage you want to try and trap the other players into making a mistake. If you flop a big hand and are first to act you can check if the other players have been aggressive. If they have been playing passively try making a small bet into the pot that looks like you are trying to steal it. If you are raised, you can come over the top with a bigger raise and trap the other player.
If you have the middle stack you don’t want to wait and hope that the small stack is knocked out by the large stack. Many times when the SnG gets down to three the play will still be tight. With the mid size stack you can still put some fear into the big stack who might be afraid to confront your raises.
If you find that you are the short stack then you have nothing to lose. This is not to say that you should just bluff off your chips, but you also can’t wait to be blinded off either. Chances are if the player with the big stack is a knowledgeable, he will be attacking you. You will have to make a stand.
2 Players
When you are playing heads up you can’t afford to wait. Many times it comes down to who can steal the most blinds. Rememeber, in poker stealing isn’ta bad thing. You should raise a lot from the small blind. If the big blinds folds half the time you will show a profit.
If you are the big blind and find yourself against a player using this strategy you will need to counter it by calling more or raising him. You must loosen up or you will go broke. Don’t be afraid to raise back. A small pair, or even a single Ace or King, can be a big favorite in heads up play. With a big hand you can often trap from the small blind by limping in with it. Try It!!!
Some players are a little hesitant about entering a single table Sit and Go because they think all the players are seasoned pros. Baloney!!!. Nothing could be further from the truth, especially in the lower limit tournaments. If you try this strategy you may just find that they are the more profitable than you possibly imagined. It might take you a few tournaments to fine tune your strategy but don’t give up. Just remember to BE PATIENT!
Lastly, if you do become a consistent sit-n-go winner, feel free to send me a portion of your winnings as a little token of your appreciation.

Gambling, Playing Video Poker

Posted on December 23rd, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Video-poker is a popular way of playing an old favorite in a more private atmosphere. With video poker it is you against the machine without the hassle of dealing with other players. Of course, in video poker there is no element of bluffing as with paper card poker however there is still a lot of fun to be had as well as a certain amount of skill. When you play video poker your strategy starts before you even put a coin in the machine. There are many different video poker machines and they play with different odds and returns. You should always compare the odds and returns with other machines and aim for the ones that give you at least a 98% return. Once you have found a machine that you like take a good look at the payout per hand. This will affect how you play your cards because sometimes it is worth you while giving up a lower hand in a gamble to get a higher hand. Here are some of the more popular video poker machines and how to play them.
Jacks or Better machines have a payout of 98% to 100% so go for the highest you can find. Generally you can expect the game to be fairly even in terms of wins and losses and not have he highs and lows that you get with some other machines. There are different kinds of Jacks or Betters and you should head for the Easy Money variety as these usually give the best odds of winning. Don’t confuse with the Jack’s Back variety. The odds may look similar but in the long run this machine with not give you as chances of winning. Also, the Crawdad variety which gives you better odds on Four of a Kind does not give you as good odds of winning in the long run.
Joker Poker machines are very popular because they can give returns as high as 102%. However, because the wild cards increase the chances of higher hands the minimum hand required for a win is also higher, usually a pair of kings or two pairs. Four of kind is the most common big win hand on this machine and if you get one of those during a session you should come out on top. Don’t confuse with Joker’s Wild that only has a 92% return.
Finally Deuces Wild is another common video poker machine. The key point to remember on this machine is that your twos are valuable cards to don’t discard them. Played right, a Deuces Wild machine can give a 102% return but your wins and losses can swing wildly.
One general rule applies to all video poker machines: Always play the maximum credits! The payoffs increase depending on how many credits you make and it will break your heart to get waste a royal flush on a bet of only one credit. Gambling, The pleasures of Internet Backgammon

Posted on December 23rd, 2009 at 1:02 pm

The backgammon game has been a favorite pastime for most of recorded human history. The fifteen checkers allotted to each player, and the backgammon board with its alternately colored triangular shaped divisions, are well known all around the world. The rules of the game are quite easy to learn. The basic objective is to become the first player to get all their checkers into the area of the board designated as “Home” and from here they “Bear off”, or remove the checkers from the board. Today there is hardly a toyshop worthy of the name without its backgammon set on sale, and the backgammon board game is a popular present for the birthday boy or girl. Generations of children have learned how to play the game and have continued to play the game into their older years.
The ancient antecedents of backgammon might have led to it being rejected by today’s younger generation of players but the opposite has been the case. The development of the Internet has provided a major boost in popularity to the game. Internet backgammon has developed over the past fifteen years in a well-patronized source of home entertainment. The refinement of computer technology allows the online backgammon sites to present a backgammon setup with a realistic 3-D appearance, and to play backgammon online offers players the same excitement as the traditional game on the backgammon board.
Among the attractions of the online backgammon sites for new players are the provision of clear backgammon instructions and the chance to play free demo games to develop playing skills. Internet backgammon is a particularly valuable additional to the range of available leisure activities for people living in remote locations, and those whose are housebound due to ill health or advanced years. Until the introduction of online backgammon, there possibilities for participating in backgammon matches were severely limited at best. The introduction of online backgammon provides a rich range of new playing opportunities. Backgammon players can find games online whenever it suits them and at the level of play they are looking for.
Internet backgammon sites bring together players from a wide variety of countries and different playing abilities. In addition, Internet backgammon lets players take on a sophisticated backgammon computer that can also be adjusted to give them a beginning or an advanced game, and various playing levels in between.
As players perfect their skills, they often are attracted by the challenges of backgammon gambling. The opportunities for competitive gaming and the generous prizes provided on backgammon gaming sites serve as strong incentives for players to keep coming back to these sites. Certainly with sufficient practice and the development of a sound backgammon strategy, substantial prizes are available for the taking, though there will always remain those players who prefer to play for the fun only and they are also well looked after by a variety of suitable online backgammon sites. We recommend you read up on how to play and where the best sites are to play on the net before you start.

Gambling, Free backgammon allows you to play often and helps build a strategy

Posted on December 23rd, 2009 at 8:02 am

Free backgammon is a term most internet savvy players will be familiar with, due to the amazing growth of online backgammon gaming sites. But for anyone not familiar with the world of backgammon online a little explanation is in order. What is generally meant by “free backgammon” is not a distribution of actual backgammon games free of charge, nor is it a reference to free membership at the local backgammon club. What we’re referring to is the backgammon software downloads that are available at no charge to the player from internet backgammon sites. With a basic Internet connection and a computer that can support the high-quality 3-D video backgammon software the player can download and play the game as often as they like for free. It’s a great way to learn the game, practice your strategy and just play non-competitive backgammon for free.
The vast majority of the players who download the free backgammon software are not simply interested in free gaming. In fact the main reasons for accessing backgammon Internet sites and downloading their software isn’t necessarily the interest in backgammon gambling but the ability to simply play for free, have fun and meet other avid players from all around the world. It’s like the world’s biggest backgammon club right at your fingertips.
But other players also see free games as a chance to practice for the big tournaments. The online backgammon industry has developed a reputation for hosting regular backgammon tournaments with high value prizes. These competitions are arranged at all levels, and even a player that doubts they have the skills to get to the final round and win the main prize, can hope for winning a substantial secondary prize if they are eliminated from the tournament in one of the higher qualifying rounds.
In addition to the skilled games, or those who hope to join their ranks, the businessperson who looks forward to play backgammon for relaxation, or to make a small gamble now and again, also finds the online sites a valuable resource. These players find it hard to find the time to go to their local backgammon club and they appreciate the chance to play the game when it fits in with their schedule. For example, if you finish a busy meeting in the early hours of the morning and wish to unwind over a game of backgammon, you will find someone to play against online or, if you prefer, you can play against a backgammon computer.
Another important group of online backgammon players are the new players to the game. A good proportion of these will want to access the articles and instructions available online to learn the backgammon rules. They will also look forward to the chance to practice how to play backgammon against one of the powerful backgammon computers where you can select a game at a level that suits your skills. Later they can find human opponents of a similar or slightly high skill level to further improve their play.

Gambling, The Difference Between Limit and No Limit Texas Hold’Em

Posted on December 23rd, 2009 at 3:02 am

Italian poker players have a choice of playing limit or no-limit Texas Hold’Em when they sit down at a poker table, whether it is in a casino or in online poker. There is no real difference in the way the game is played because the difference lies in the size of the pot. Limit poker is really challenging intellectually. A spread limit is usually implemented and each round of betting on the flop, turn or river will have both a minimum and maximum limit in place for how much you are allowed to bet.
If you like to bluff, then you won’t do well in limit Texas Hold’Em. Bluffing is rarely used in this poker game. Most of the hands are played directly, which is why it is so important to always make the right decisions. In contrast to limit Texas Hold’Em, one of the strategies Italian and other poker players use in no-limit games is the that of applying pressure at strategic points in the game to win a large pot.
With the small limits used in limit Texas Hold’Em, you won’t win a lot of money. The advantage to playing this type of poker is that you can play for a longer period of time before you lose all your chips and get put out of the game. You really won’t learn any of the essential poker skills by continually playing limit Texas Hold’Em. There is very little aggression in the game and with the low pots, there is also little opportunity to learn to read the players and predict whether or not they think they have a winning hand. Limit poker is more scientific and mathematical in nature, where as learning to become a good no-limit player is an art form in itself.
That is not to say that you don’t need to have knowledge of the rules of Texas Hold’Em in order to play limit games. You still need to have the basic knowledge of how to play the game. Beginners usually start off playing for real money with limit games so that they won’t lose a lot of money until they become comfortable with their game play. The potential for loss is much less in limit poker than it is in no-limit poker.
Once you do have a good grasp of the game, then you can move on to no-limit poker. You can beat any opponent in either forms of the game as long as you employ good poker strategies and gain an understanding of how the other players play the game. Being able to read the other players is perhaps the most important poker strategy that you can have in your repertoire. Once you have this understanding, you will also have the ability to change your game play during the game to meet the changes of your opponents so that you take advantage of their weaknesses. You also have to be aware of your own strengths and weaknesses and know the right time to make a move or when you should fold your hand.

Gambling, The Mets will have it wrapped up by the All Star break!

A quick scan around Major League Baseball will reveal some really tight races in 5 out of the 6 divisions, but make no mistake about it, the Atlanta Braves reign at the top of the NL East is over. The New York Mets have been money in the bank for bettors all year and especially in their most recent road trip.
How about a 9-1 mark on the 10-games road trip, where they outscored their opponents 79-39 and now they lead the Philadelphia Phillies by 9 ½ games! Hey check these numbers out that the trio of Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Carlos Delgado has put up. In 710 official at bats, these guys have hung up 51 homeruns and 152 RBI’s and we are only halfway through June.
New York set a major league record by winning its eighth consecutive game on the road when scoring in the first inning. The 1939 Yankees did it seven consecutive games. The Mets’ streak of eight straight games scoring in the first is a team record, and the eight consecutive wins are their most during any road trip.
The Braves lost to Florida 3-2 to fall 13 games behind New York. It’s their largest deficit since their record streak of 14 straight division titles started in 1991, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
The Braves went 1-6 on their trip and are seven games below .500 for the first time since May 26, 1992.
Meanwhile while were discussing streaks, maybe the Arizona Diamondbacks should stay away from the desert as they certainly don’t fancy home cooking. After reeling off several victories on the road two weeks ago and assuming the lead in the NL West, Arizona went 1-9 on their 10-game homestand.
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen made it quite clear that he will not tolerate passive players as he banished rookie pitcher Sean Tracy to the minors yesterday. On Wednesday night Texas Rangers pitched Vincente Padilla hit White Sox catcher A.J. Pierznyski not once, but twice in the arm. When Tracy took the hill in the 7th inning, he threw inside to Rangers Hank Blalock but would not hit him.
When he came back to the dugout the fiery manager Guillen got in his face and made sure Tracy knew this would not be tolerated and also issued the rookie a bus ticket to Charlotte on Thursday.
